April
Specials
Our
Stonewall Guest Family is growing at a torrid pace!
This Newsletter is being
sent to over 4000 of our past guests who receive it every
month. As you might guess, there is a clamoring for
reservations when there is some JMU/EMU or other special
events or weekends. We call these times Premium, and shift
into hyper drive to try and accommodate the "frequent stay"
members of our Stonewall Brigade. Alas, it has become
impossible. Best advice is always make your reservations as
early as possible. If we are full and you have a
self-contained camper or RV, we have a big back yard :-),
but first please give us a call.
For those who have read
this far, I have an April Wayne Deal: For all past guests
(you are in our guest database), go to our website and make an
online reservation for any room during April midweek,
(Sunday-Thurs) for $99. BUT you must request "Wayne's April
Deal" in the "Special Needs & Notes" section of your on-line
reservation request. So, get your George Bush "Stimulus
Check" and cash it here!!!
Call 800-445-5330 today
or click on
http://www.webervations.com/
to reserve your room. Be sure to mention this special when making your
reservation.

Wayne's
Adventures
You
must see it!
Audrey and I have almost
finished furnishing our cozy 4th floor roof top Penthouse.
We still have to select and purchase the roof deck decor and
equipment. What a nice private place it will be for us to
relax in the afternoon with a cool drink and/or
watch the night sky while we enjoy a delicious glass of the
finest Virginia Wine.

I must get a
telescope, (anyone have one they are not using in their
attic:-)) I'm going to name the roof deck look-out area
"The Crow's Nest". From there you can see the City in the
valley, the Blue Ridge Mountain Range to the East and The
Allegany Mountains in West (By-G*d) Virginia. So, when you
come, if you are up for it, request some "soft
adventure", climb the stairs with me to the Cozy Penthouse
and enjoy some libation and conversation with me in The
Crow's Nest (weather permitting lolol).

Of course, you
will also want to see the renovation progress of the first
floor Innkeepers Apartments. The drywall is hung and
iAskkt is being primed and painted as I write. I am using
two paint colors by the name of "Sunbeam and Rain Forest".
You will be interested in seeing the Sun Tunnels in the
bedrooms and the Skylight Greenhouse off the living room.
It will look something like a tropical garden place when I
finish with it :-).
We might even get a
resident (clean talking) Pirate Parrot "Matey" to complete
the theme. Ask me about my new dog "flappy":-) Perhaps my right brain has gone wild, eh? In any
event, my Innkeepers are going to have some 1st Class digs
when it is finished, target is May 1. (If I don't run out of
cash first!)

The
Innkeeper News
I have a new
right arm!!
A
Sidekick to dream about! Peter, who was introduced in our
March Newsletter, has quickly moved into shouldering major
responsibilities. As well, we have forged a very good
working relationship and are having lots of fun. He is a
loveable and loving man who calls me "Doc" or "Boss" always
with respect and a smile. His aura of Good Will lights the
Inn with warmth that is contagious. One cannot help but
respond to his enthusiasm and good humor. We are the Lone
Ranger and Tonto!

In addition, he has a
beautiful singing voice, and delights guests with astounding
renditions of any type of music from Opera to Backcountry
ballads. But more importantly, he loves to clean, cook and
has culinary skills that improve daily with his motivation
for gastronomic perfection in serving our guests. He has
learned to do eggs better than "Mr. Egg" who you have
probably seen on TV. His Stonewall Quiche (to die for) is
this month’s recipes...see below. If you haven't met him
yet, you are in for an unforgettable encounters as well as
another "A Night's Delight & Breakfast to Remember"!
"Godparents for Tanzania"
You
may remember that this Educational Foundation is our
Signature Charity. A good number of our Stonewall Family has
become educational Godparents of a deserving child who is at
the poverty level. For a mere $450, one can underwrite a
full year of a good elementary school for such a student.
That includes books, food, clothes, everything. I would
encourage you to visit their webpage and request a very
informative brochure.
www.godparents4tz.org or email
tellmemore@godparents4tz.org

It is through this
foundation that Joseph Nyaki has been obtained an
educational grant to come to our Inn for Professional
Innkeeper training for the Lutheran Church in Tanzania.
Because of the Homeland Security regulations and
restrictions, obtaining an H-3 Training Visa is very
difficult, complicated with multiple forms, security checks,
etc. In addition, there is a $750 application fee with an
admitted high risk that the Visa would not be granted.
Never-the-less, efforts continue to find some way for him to
travel here and take advantage of his educational grant. We
may have to have Condi Rice attend to the matter in her
spare time:-). Will keep you posted on this.

Guests of the Month
Christos Alexandrou
Enjoying a "Breakfast to
Remember"!
Perhaps you have heard of Rosetta Stone.
It is a fast growing company that produces excellent cd language
learning modules. Their Corporate Headquarters is 6 blocks from the
Inn, so we have a lot of gifted linguists who are invited here to
assist in the production of the various languages. Most often they
stay for a week or two and become very good and bonded friends with
the staff. You might remember that Doncha O'Riain was "Guest of the
Month" here last summer. His expertise was in Gaelic.
Christos' expertise as you might have
guessed is Greek. But he is a "Renaissance Man", with a great singing
& recording voice. His disc, "One Look" is a romantic medley of love
songs that merits a place in your cd tower. He presently is living in
New York City and is teaching, acting and directing dramatic theater
at The Greek Cultural Center. Quite a guy! Take a peep at his
website
www.christosalexandrou.com
to listen to clips of his discs. We and all the guests, enjoyed his
artistic gifts (we have the disc), his sense of humor, and natural
charisma. He has joined our Stonewall Family and will be returning to
compete his work with Rosetta Stone. If you stay with us in April,
and are lucky, you will enjoy having
a "Breakfast to Remember" with him. If you do, you will never forget
him!

Poet's Corner
Perhaps you have noticed
that I have a small book of poetry written by my sister, Mary
Margaret in the Gift Corner. You might have one. She was a
most remarkable and gifted woman, full of love. Her picture
is in the Appomattox Room with a stack of her books titled "Reveries~Reflections ~ Remembrances". How
she happened to write all those poems in one year is story for
another time.
Mary Margaret died in
my arms of kidney failure, two years ago this April at the age
of 79,. We had a very long and special relationship caring
for each other. In the last hours of our togetherness, I asked
her what should be done with her author's stash of her books.
She smiled and softly said, "Give them away at your Inn
to the beautiful people who love
poetry". So, if you
are a lover, I have one for you. Here is one of her
favorites, written when in a melancholy mood after the death
of her husband. It is from the Reveries group. I
hope you enjoy it. Let me know.....Wayne
Introspection
In the middle of my mind
There is a tiny space reserved,
For all my secret, private thoughts
That only God has heard.
Precious bits fill that tiny space,
As jewels that sparkle loose and free.
Brief moments allow me to select
Any treasured gem that I would see
There is only honesty and truth
That light the whole array.
Memories return, thoughts of now,
Assurance of futures some day.
My faith is strengthened, my spirit renewed
Each time I am made aware
Of all the treasures that are stored,
And God always meets me there.

Did
You Know?
Did you know that after the Battle of Gettysburg. the discarded
rifles were collected and sent to Washington to be inspected
and reissued? Of the 37,574 rifles recovered, 24,000 were
still loaded; 6,000 had one round in the barrel; 12,000 had
two rounds in the barrel; 6,000 had three to ten rounds in
the barrel. One rifle, the most remarkable of all, had been
stuffed to the top with twenty-three rounds in the barrel. And now you know!

Travel Tips
.Airport Security Checks
In preparation for airport security checks, use the
'suspend' mode (Windows) as an alternative to making sure
your battery has enough power to boot up. Activate the
suspend mode the last time you use your laptop before going
to the airport. It will restart quickly and consume almost
no battery power, leaving the maximum battery charge if you
want to work during the flight. for Mac users, it is the
'sleep' mode). When you go through airport security, you may
be asked to turn your laptop on. Make sure your battery has
enough power left, to avoid delays. The process may also be
sped up by booting from a floppy diskette.
X-ray Machines: X-ray machines at airports are not a threat
to your laptop's hard-drive or floppy disks. However, the
security checkpoint conveyer belt is a target for thieves
who watch for unattended equipment passing through the x-ray
machines. As a result you may want to have a security guard
hand check your machine rather than putting it through the
conveyer.
Hotel Room Security: If you’re feeling insecure about
leaving your notebook computer in the hotel room. leave it
stowed in your room but take the removable disk drive with
you when you leave.
Disguise Your Laptop: To help safeguard against theft,
disguise your computer while traveling. Trade in the
traditional computer case for a less conspicuous bag such as
the Saddlebag.

Recipe of the Month
Peter's "Killer" Quiche ~ A New SWJ Signature Breakfast
If this isn't
the best Quiche you ever had, we will be surprised. It has
received nothing but Raves from our guests, and we are making it
a Signature Breakfast, putting it in the famous class with our
Eggs Benedict Nova Scotia, Croissant French Toast, Stonewall
Hash, and of course, our succulent Jackson Omelets! The
"Killer" Quiche is a variation of Lorraine.
Preheat oven to
375 F with catch baking sheets on the lower rack
Liquid
Ingredients- 8 Grade A Large Eggs
1 Cup Heavy Cream
1/2 Cup Half and Half
Salt and pepper (coarse grind) to
taste...be generous with the pepper!! (It looks good too!)
Blend or
whisk thoroughly: 2 Cups coarsely chopped fresh baby
spinach
2 lbs. Bacon
rendered and crumbled (Fresh Sausage can be used too)
1 lb. Jarlsberg
Swiss Cheese, coarsely grated (Jarlsberg is a Semi Soft Part
Skim Milk Sweet Cheese, Lucerene is similar if
Jarlesberg is not
available).
Use either two-
8" pie shells in shallow aluminum pans, or one large 9" deep
dish pie plate with a pre-rolled crust (for the latter, bake an
additional 15 - 20 minutes).
Layer freshly
chopped Spinach, then crumbled bacon and finally the grated
Swiss cheese so it is rounded (it will all settle down as it
bakes). Gently top with the liquid ingredients, fill until it
is 1/2 to 1/4 inches below the top of the pie crust., Use
baking sheets underneath as it bakes it may spill over a little,
Bake smaller pie
shells (aluminum) 35 - 40 minutes, larger (glass, deep dish) pie
plates 50 - 55 minutes. To brown top of quiche if not as brown
as you want it, broil final 3-4 minutes, or until desired
color/texture is reached.
Enjoy, Bon
Appetito!! Peter
