Thank You Very Much

     Thank You  Very Much....

We so  very  much appreciate the kind and glowing comments and report  you write to us on  your evaluation form about your stay at our B&B.    Most of you have also indicated,  on that form, that you would be very willing to "spread the word"  by recommending  us to your friends and others.  As a result of that "good will",  we have many first time guests that come to us via a recommendation from our  previous guests, folks just like yourself.
For that good will, we want to convey a big
THANK YOU to you as a valued guest.   For certain, there is nothing like a good review  and recommendation from a satisfied and happy guest to build our success and provide others with our great Stonewall Jackson Experience..."A Night's Delight ~ A Breakfast to Remember"!

There is another new way that you could really help us "spread the word"!   The Internet age as spawned several sites that post unsolicited reviews by travelers about their experiences while traveling.  Savvy Internet guests visit these sites to read these reviews and make their choices of where to stay,  The most frequently visited and used site is "Trip Advisor".  It is a site where you type in your destination (e.g.. Harrisonburg),  and read recent unsolicited reviews by others who have visited and stayed in that area.  They are  posted by folks like yourself, to help others decide on their lodging decision.  You might try doing this the next time your travel...it is helpful, there are all kinds of reviews, some good and some scathing ones too.  Travelers seem to have a mission to report their own honest triple-A (AAA) evaluation of their experience.  You can easily read how others have reviewed us by visiting the site, and you can write and post YOUR OWN helpful review of your Stonewall Jackson Experience.

Knowing that you had "A Night's Delight ~ A Breakfast to Remember" and a good time with Wayne and Roger, and that you would be willing to tell others about it...... it would be most helpful to us and potential guests,  if you had just a few minutes to write a brief review so that others might benefit from your experience and opinion about  staying at our B&B.  Why don't you do that right now.....here is the link to the page, click on the button "write a review". and give us your help  and others the benefit of your experience...We check the page daily, so we will see your review, and of course, give you a surprise VIP perk on your next visit.      Thank you for helping and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Future Generations

Future Generation

Stonewall Jackson Inn and Future Generations hosted 16 students for a week during the month of July. The students age range were from 24 to 60 years old and hailed from 14 different countries, from Afghanistan to the Heiltsuk Nation in Canada. They are part of a master's program offered by Future Generations.

During the program, students travel to four countries-India, the United States, Peru and Tibet- spending about a month in each country. The first week of the United States program was held at the Stonewall Jackson Inn.

Future Generations, founded in 1992, is a nonprofit educational institution that teaches and enables a process of equitable and sustainable community change in four countries:  Afghanistan , China , India and Peru. The process of community change is designed to facilitate three-way partnerships between communities, government and non-government organizations and to scale-up successful community-based programs to the regional or national level. Future Generations formalized its education programs in 2003 by offering a Master's of Arts Degree Program in Applied Community Change and Conservation.

   Did you know?

Millions of buffalo never roamed the United States.

Buffalo can be found in India, the Philippines, Celebes, and Africa.  The animal mistakenly called a buffalo in the United States is actually the North American bison, a completely different animal.  Bison have twenty-eight ribs and separate upturned horns; buffalo have twenty-six ribs and joined horns.  In 1850, approximately 20 million bison roamed over the western plains of North America. European settlers nearly annihilated the bison.  By 1889, 551 bison could be found in the United States.

And now you know!

Recipe of the Month

Graham Cracker Streusel Coffee Cake presented by Gracehill Bed & Breakfast

Streusel:
Use one pkg graham crackers, (9 full ones)
1 cup brown sugar
1 stick and 3 Tbsps melted butter
1 1/2 cups pecans
2 tsps cinnamon

Put your graham crackers in a Ziploc bag, close it and roll with rolling pin until crushed, put in large bowl. Add other dry ingredients. Melt butter pour over and mix thoroughly. Set aside.

Cake:
1 box (18 1/4 oz) white cake or French vanilla cake mix
1 box of instants (3.12 oz) French vanilla pudding
3 eggs
1/4 cup oil
1 cup water

Beat together until thoroughly mixed. Pour half into a greased 13X9X2 baking pan. Sprinkle with half of the streusel mixture. Carefully spread the remaining batter on top of the streusel and then top with remaining streusel. If using an aluminum pan bake for 45 minutes at 350 degrees. If using a dark pan bake for 30-35 minutes at 350 degrees. I've tried this several different ways and it actually bakes better with less brown edges in the aluminum pan for a longer time. Insert toothpick for final test. This is the only coffee cake I've ever made that tastes as good the second day or freezes well and can be served when thawed. Of course you lose the smell that a hot coffee cake right out of the oven provides. I usually drizzle icing on top made from powered sugar and milk.

Yields 12 to 16 servings
