Wayne's Adventures
Wayne's Adventures ~ Rollin on the River!
Last year it
was the Volga....This year, I couldn't resist...The
Rhine and Moselle Rivers are beautiful in
Springtime!!! The Easter Holiday was an enchanted
time for a slow scenic cruise though these River
Valleys. Meandering on a small river cruiser (which
served French/German gourmet food) through the Black
Forest and German/French Wine Country is an odyssey
that will sensuously and clearly imprint my memory
forever...guaranteed! Eating wonderfully prepared lamb
shanks at sunset while viewing the passing picturesque
countryside of small villages, is life about as good as
it gets!
The Moselle
River Valley which winds northward from Koblentz from
it's confluence with the Rhine, is famous for the best
Riesling Wine in the world. Picturesque small hamlets
and villages, each with an old and grand Castle,
Cathedral, Cobblestone streets, and a Town Hall with
ancient city walls and gates, built by the Romans
centuries ago. And of course, each with a local winery
that boasts "The Best Riesling of the Moselle"! for
$6. A large goblet of it with a Wurst on a French
Roll...unforgettable!
Heidelberg,
which was never bombed, is truly a mandatory day's visit
at the starting point of the 9 day cruise. This is the
area of Germany where Martin Luther and John Guttenberg
changed the course of western civilization freeing the
commoner from the illiterate dark ages and feudal
system. Thus, Dripping with Renaissance and Reformation
History it is rich and captivating in beauty as it's
character and ambiance has been secured by the very
historic and famous, Heidelberg University.
Rudescheim,
Koblentz, Spreyer, Cochem, Strasbourg, Bearcasltle are
all towns visited that are relatively unspoiled by
industry; thriving on the huge and colorful Vineyards
and wineries, and tourists that come to enjoy the
historic ambiance of the architecture, frequent
festivals and the beautifully scenic river and towns.
Rudesheim and Strasbourg are especially memorable,
being alternately occupied by the Romans, French and
Germans for centuries, each leaving an important and
lasting legacy of history and beauty.
All that
for $110 a day, including airfare...irresistible! Wanna
go? I'm game....Come stay with me and we will talk
about it!

Simon Says....!
Good News!
As a memory tic for the
old , or for our new guests, we hosted and sponsored a Sudanese
refugee, Simon . In past E-letters we provided a brief report
of his resettlement progress here. Well, he is doing very
well. He has obtained a full time job as an orderly in a local
Hospital, has a car and a place of his own. He wishes us to
convey his thanks to all who have inquired and sent their best
wishes, and is extremely grateful to our country for opening our
hearts and arms to him. He is going to auto mechanics at a
local technical trade school and hopes to marry, have a family
and make our country his home. He is a good man, and will be
an asset to our country. Our next Refugee is on the way...we
will keep you posted.

Did you know?
S.O.S. does not stand for "Save Our
Ship"!
S.O.S., the international Morse code signal for distress,
does not stand for anything. The Letters S.O.S. were
adopted by international agreement in 1908 because they are
easy to transmit. The Letter S is transmitted as
three dots. The letter O is transmitted as three
dashes. The international signal word for a distress call by
radio or telephone is "Mayday," derived from the French word
m'aider ("help me")
And now you know!
