It’s the weekend of the Rockingham County Fair, and the surrounding towns are abuzz with visitors, performers, and the extra farmer’s hat or two. Here are some of the things you can expect to find:
- Animals — From kids showing their 4-H critters to big-time blue-ribbon entrants (cows, sheep, goats, and pigs oh my!), that’s just the start. There’s also an exhibit hall featuring rabbits and fowl – with some unexpected winged friends to be discovered. And, of course, a petting zoo, where you can make the day of a happy-go-lucky little pot-bellied pig by giving him a good scratch on the back.
- Entertainment & exhibits — Check out the Grandstand for big acts like Alan Jackson and Kellie Pickler in addition to the weekend’s scheduled demolition derby and the truck and tractor pull. Also happening throughout the weekend: horse shows, talent shows, pirate shows, alligator shows, music shows, flower shows, produce shows, dog shows, pageants, and more.
- Food — Cotton candy, candy apples, sno-cones, french fries, onion rings, bloomin’ onions, corn on the cob, chicken, steak, ‘slaw, fresh-squeezed lemonade, and other fair-friendly offerings.
- Rides & games — Win your sweetheart a giant stuffed animal, just like old times. Or, go for a spin (literally) on any of the standard carnival attractions.
